Game Characters - Stone/Fire Elemental

As promised, here comes some characters I did during the past 6 months.

I introduce Fire Elemental!

This is one of the earliest characters I did.  Looking back,  it seems okay but definitely needs more attention to details up close.  The thing is, the characters were just supposed to be rendered in small sprites so I believe the amount of detail was satisfactory.  I put it here because it challenged my patience and diligence.  I modeled the whole body in separate boulders stacked on top of each other to make it look or feel real.  I went away with making asymmetrical as I was already pressed for time and I was planning on giving it a more dramatic death and reanimation sequence.

Fire Elemental is a actually a re-skin of the Stone Elemental; they share the same animation and model with mild alterations.

Textures are mostly hand-painted and adjusted in photoshop.

I will post more characters soon and I'll be including a documentation of the workflow.

Here's what I've been up to for the past 6 months--supplying artwork and assets for a still ongoing game project.  Scope of my work ranges from concept art up to renders.  I've practically been immersed in almost all the fields in game asset creation; I could almost call myself a 3D generalist.  In the end I don't bother too much with titles.  What matters is the work is done and the fun is had.

The work demanded much more than I thought I could give; it was daunting at first but I managed to get through it.  Posted here are some environment art I did. I started from concept art--drawing in silhouettes, shapes, and shades for options before heading to modeling and finalizing textures.

At one point, I finished a render and had to do some more ruined state.  So what I did was I used the current render just took it apart in 2D photoshop to better visualize how I would like it look destroyed in 3D.

I used the concept as a strict reference in modeling and in effect, I got a pretty close render from the models:

They may not be the best artworks out there but I'm pretty happy and satisfied with them considering they are really my first all-around environment assets.

Next, I will post some character art and animations. Stay tuned!
