WIP another one for the holiday

It was another long weekend and I tried my best not to waste time.  I decided to draw a whole female character.  I don't draw much female but it's worth a try.  I figured I'd just make her a warrior-ish  type so that I wouldn't have to mind a lot about her pose being lady-like.  Here's my initial sketch:
messy lines, don't know what to make of it yet

Well, there was too much drama in the pose for me so I went with a rather default or conventional pose and started painting it in.  I also changed proportions to better fit a regular female body:

Now before I went to filling everything up,  I went on to flip the image horizontally and there it showed me what else needs tweaking on the proportions.  Her right arm seemed too long and the shoulder doesn't quite line up properly.  I also had to scale the weapon up a bit and flip it to make it look better in silhouette.  Only then did I continue to paint in a foundation of gray shades.  It took me almost a whole work day for this WIP and I'm not happy with that but I won't be too hard on myself.  I guess I'll play some games now.

Here's my final WIP for tonight:

Just do it already

earthbender

I've been wanting try out painting and coloring more and finally here it is.  Fortunately, this long weekend is giving me ample time to just do it.  No intense self-studies...just doing what I know and have learned from peers.  I would do some more research and watch some tutorials to improve but *reasons*.  I guess I'm just not into painting that much yet but hopefully I get to be since this skill will make me more flexible as an artist.

This is not the first time I painted with acceptable (for me) effort.  Here are some other early works that I've done to practice on drawing and shading.
